So it's finally June, which means it's pride month. Every year we celebrate the right to love who we love, without any discrimination, hate or judgment. We like to celebrate on how far we've came and the achievements we've accomplished. Everyday is there is still judgement, hate, discrimination and much more happening to those who identify as LGBTQ+. This is why we have pride events happening all over the world and pride month. As I said it's not only a time to celebrate but also a time to protest over the fact so many lives are still negatively impacted when they are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. I feel like we're slowly loosing the point of why pride is important and what has lead us to creating safe places to be yourself in.
I understand a lot of big businesses like to jump on the band wagon, come June. Once June is over with the take down their pride supporting profile pictures and hardly mention support towards the LGBTQ community for another year. This is the stuff that doesn't help our community but showcases pride as a commercial event to enjoy only, show support on the day but then let negative comments slide on the next day.
Fair enough we have all the posts about what companies and organisations are doing during pride month, but my point is, if you feel like you want to support pride and the LGBTQ+ community then feel free to support us during the rest of the year too. Show us what you are doing each year to make things better and improve the support for the LGBTQ+ community. Give us updates on all the achievements made and what you've got planned for any floats you've made for pride parades. Don't just turn up on the day of pride and expect you've done enough, there is 12 months in a year where work, encouragement and support can all be given and improved upon for the LGBTQ+ community.
